District schedules active-shooter staff training and outlines JPA safety inspection findings

The board was told the district will host an active-shooter training for employees on Nov. 6 led by an Arcadia Police Department officer who serves on the SWAT team. “Next week in November on the 6th, we will be hosting an active shooter training for our employees here at the district office,” staff said. The district has about 20 staff signed up for the initial session and may offer additional sessions depending on demand. The Joint Powers Authority conducted biannual school-safety inspections across campuses and produced findings ranked on a 1–5 scale; priority items included missing electrical outlet covers, burned-out exit-sign bulbs, ensuring exit pathways are clear of stored items, and securing tall furniture to walls. Risk staff said they will work with operations and site staff to correct these findings.
No board action was taken; staff said corrections will be tracked and may reduce future claims costs, citing insurer research presented at a recent JPA retreat.
