Board votes to open contract negotiations with CSEA Chapter 40

The Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education voted to adopt the district's initial proposal to open contract negotiations with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 40 at its Oct. 14 meeting.
"I'll move to adopt the Arcadia Unified School District initial proposal to open contract negotiations ... with the California School Employees Association, CSEA, chapter 40," said Mr. Chung, a board member, as he moved the motion. The president called for a second and then asked for a vote; the chair declared the motion carried after board members responded in the affirmative.
Board President opened the public hearing for the district's proposal and reported there were no public comments; the hearing was then closed. The board later opened and closed a separate public hearing on the CSEA chapter's initial proposal; no action was required on the union's submission during the meeting.
The vote authorizes district staff to begin formal bargaining under the interest-based bargaining process described by district leadership. District staff said this is the second year the district has used IBB and praised the union leadership for participating in the process.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the bargaining schedule and return to the board with updates as negotiations progress.
