Managers' report: 24 Hometown Heroes banners; EGLE scrap-tire grant applied for; zoning enforcement to increase

City Manager Michael Stelmaszek reported several operational updates during the managers' report at the April 6 meeting. He said 24 families have signed up for the Hometown Heroes banner program for the 2026–2028 banner season; construction will begin later in April on the second half of Projects #2 and #3 including rehabilitation work on Well #5 and abandonment of a second lift station on Bancroft Street.
Stelmaszek also said the city applied for the EGLE Scrap Tire Grant (applications due March 31, 2026); if approved the program would provide $3.00 toward disposal for the first 1,000 tires turned in by Kingsford residents at the County Solid Waste Disposal Site. He added that Zoning and Public Safety will intensify enforcement of the city's Blight Ordinance and the ordinance prohibiting farm animals in residential areas; residents were encouraged to report restricted-animal sightings to aid enforcement.
