Santa Fe staff outline housing programs and urge coordinated approach to homelessness

City housing director Fabiola Chavez said the City of Santa Fe maintains an Affordable Housing Trust Fund that receives about $3,000,000 in annual appropriations from the general fund and that the city received about $600,000 through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant this year. Chavez outlined inclusionary zoning tools (including a 20% set‑aside requirement for certain developments and a 15% fee‑in‑lieu option) that the city uses to create and maintain affordability.
County and city managers urged the governing bodies to treat affordable housing as a central element of the homelessness response and recommended a ‘‘landscape analysis’’ to inventory prevention, shelter, treatment and reentry services. The managers said such an analysis would help the working group create an integrated set of recommendations for prevention and production.
