Student group and principal back courtyard tree planter project at Avon High School

Olivia Pajak, a non-voting student member of the Avon Tree Commission, reported that she met with the SAVE Club and adviser Mr. Simon in December to plan a courtyard tree planter project at Avon High School. The project calls for installing four tree planters in the school's concrete courtyards to provide shade and make the spaces usable for classes; Pajak said the principal is supportive and has indicated funds will be allocated as needed for the effort.
Pajak said the group is still finalizing planter styles and tree species. Potential suppliers mentioned at the meeting included Lowe's for planters and Willoway Nurseries Inc. for trees. Pajak said she will coordinate next steps with Chair ProTem Matt Smith and continue working with Mr. Simon and the SAVE Club; the plan anticipates student involvement in the planting and hopes to spur further environmental projects at the school.
