Upper San Gabriel Valley Water District offers K-12 grants, assemblies and contests to Arcadia schools

At the start of public comment, Alexis Silva, a public affairs assistant with the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, provided an overview of the district's K-12 education programs and resources available to Arcadia schools.
Silva said the district offers a Water Education Grant that lets teachers "apply for up to $1,000 in funding for K-twelve classroom or school projects," and that requirements and applications are available on the agency's website with a deadline of Oct. 31. She also described partnerships with the Discovery Cube (assembly presentations for K-7), transportation grants for museum trips, a student art contest with monetary prizes and entry to the Metropolitan Water District annual art calendar, and watershed restoration volunteer opportunities in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Silva left flyers and contact information for staff; board members thanked her and the meeting moved into action items.
