Arcadia Unified School District used part of its Sept. 9 meeting to recognize staff service. The board honored Ramon Calcanas, lead custodian at Holly Avenue, as Classified Employee of the Year and Paul Kelly of Dana Middle School as Teacher of the Year for 2025-26.
Speakers described Ramon's long service (noted in the meeting as more than two decades) and his daily contributions to campus life; CSEA vice president Sarah Torres said colleagues described him as "kind, patient, always willing to go that extra mile." Foothill Credit Union presented Ramon with a $100 recognition check. Principal speakers and peers praised Paul Kelly's hands-on science instruction and leadership of student media; Paul thanked his family and colleagues in brief remarks. Foothill Credit Union also presented a $100 check for Kelly's 'DIY fund.
Both recognitions featured brief remarks from school principals, union representatives and community partners; the board took photos and recessed briefly after the presentations.
