At its Sept. 9 meeting the Arcadia Unified School District board accepted the superintendent's presentation of initial bargaining proposals and voted to adopt the district's proposals to open contract negotiations.
The superintendent described the procedure as "sunshining" the initial proposals to make them public and said the district had four initial proposals on the agenda: AUSD to ATA, ATA to AUSD, APSA to AUSD and AUSD to APSA. He noted CSEA had not yet finalized its internal process to present an initial proposal. The board opened and closed the required public hearings with no speakers and then approved motions to adopt the district's initial proposals so negotiation can begin.
Board members spoke briefly in support of the interest-based bargaining approach and thanked Human Resources for facilitating the schedule. The votes to adopt the respective proposals were taken on the record and the motions carried.
