Cairo board raises ambulance transport fees, BLS set at $1,600 starting Jan. 1

The Cairo Town Board on Dec. 1 adopted Resolution No. 2025-234 raising ambulance transport fees effective Jan. 1, 2026. The resolution lists the new charges as: “1. $ 1,600 for a BLS transport; 2. $ 1,850 for ALS 1 transport; 3. $ 2,025 for ALS 2 transport; 4. $ 200.00 for Refusal of medical attention; 5. $32.00 per mile for all transports.”
Supervisor Watts offered the resolution and Council Member Bogins seconded it. The board voted with Supervisor Watts, Council Members Bogins, Cords and Flaherty recorded as aye and Council Member Murphy absent. The minutes state the Ambulance Administrator reported that the town’s rates were below area averages and below other municipal ambulance agencies, prompting the increase.
The board did not provide an implementation schedule beyond the Jan. 1, 2026 effective date listed in the resolution. The minutes do not specify whether the ambulance service will adjust its billing practices or notify third-party payers; that work appears to remain with ambulance administration and billing staff.
