Members discussed several potential layouts and dimensional options for a Covered Event Center and related pens/arenas at the Pahrump fairgrounds. The committee asked staff to begin gathering cost estimates for options that included a 350'x500' covered event center, a 400'x600' option, and heights ranging from about 35 feet (for equestrian and shows) up to 61 feet (to accommodate motocross and some motor-sports). Tawny Wald submitted supplemental backup material; Darius Mann moved to accept that backup and Michelle Chappell seconded; the motion passed 7-0.
Discussion noted trade-offs between capacity, ceiling height and types of events the facility should accommodate, and members flagged the need for parking estimates and coordination with Town staff. The minutes record size and height possibilities and that the committee will "attempt to start gathering estimates for a 350’x 500’ Covered Event Center, 400’x600’ Covered Event Center, heights from 35’ to 61’(Orleans Event Center height to accommodate Motorcross)(50ft to accommodate Monster Trucks)(35’ to accommodate equestrian events, concerts, shows, etc.)."
No final design or funding decision was made; the item was listed as "For Discussion Only" but the committee accepted the supplemental backup material and directed that estimates be gathered.
