Student Landon recounts Buckeye Boys State win and summer internship

At the Aug. 11 Plain City Council meeting, youth spotlight honoree Landon described winning a city senate seat at Buckeye Boys State and interning this summer with State Rep. Jack Daniels, where he handled constituent calls and observed committee meetings.
Landon, introduced at the council’s youth spotlight, told council members he was attending his first city council meeting and described his experience at Buckeye Boys State, where he was elected one of two state senators from his assigned city. “When I went to Buckeye Boys State, they ended up, kinda, like, assigning us to a city,” he said, explaining that the program simulates state government and staffs hundreds of roles.
Landon said he served as whip for his party and chaired the finance, ways and means, appropriations and government oversight committee, noting that he helped draft and edit bills. He also discussed his summer internship with State Representative Jack Daniels, saying he spent the season answering phone calls, taking notes in meetings and supporting the representative’s legislative aide. “Honestly, just kinda doing go for, duties, like, whatever little thing they need,” he said. The mayor wished him luck with his senior year and thanked him for sharing.
