Resident raises concern about library book; council directs issue to Library Board

A Wadsworth resident raised concerns at the March 17 City Council meeting about a book in the public library and asked whether the council found excerpts he began to read appropriate for children.
Timothy Neal of 178 Grandview Drive handed out a document, introduced himself and told the council he had found a book titled "Doing It" while searching LGBTQ reading recommendations. According to Neal, the book was recommended for ages 0–15 but identified itself for ages 14 and up; he began to read from chapter six before being interrupted.
Council President Dan Rospert told Neal that the library's collection decisions are handled by the Public Library Board, not City Council, and the council did not control library acquisitions. "It would need to be addressed at the Public Library Board and not at City Council," Rospert said. He apologized for not taking further comment and offered to provide Neal with contact information for the board.
The exchange ended with Rospert thanking Neal; no action or referral to council committees was made at the meeting. The matter, as Rospert noted, must be raised with the Public Library Board for any formal review.
