Comptroller Tony Tracy explained the current meters are prone to failure and battery issues, reducing revenue, and that the new kiosks (to be procured through the Sourcewell cooperative) will arrive by mid‑August. Tracy said the kiosks support pay‑by‑plate (alphanumeric) rather than pay‑by‑space and will integrate with Passport; staff plans a public demonstration and kiosk display on Aug. 17 and to produce short videos and on‑the‑ground assistance to help residents and visitors adopt the new system.
Councilmembers asked for a short, shareable video and clear signage and staff agreed to bring a kiosk to the senior center and to run an outreach campaign before full migration.
