Housing staff asked the council to schedule a public hearing for the 2027 Section 8 annual plan, a procedural step HUD requires. Jessica Ganis said the annual plan documents progress on the program's five‑year goals and that, after council adoption, the plan will be forwarded to HUD for review and its required minimum 45‑day public comment period.
Ganis told the council staff is requesting a public hearing on Sept. 14, 2026 at 7 p.m. and that draft copies of the plan will be posted on the city's website and available at the clerk's office for public review. She said the city has partnered with property owners at 901–907 Main Street and utilized about 31 units as project‑based vouchers to provide long‑term housing for seniors and people with disabilities; staff described outreach and appointment assistance for applicants and said applicants must be on the project‑based voucher waiting list to be considered.
