Haywood libraries highlight new services, notary and book-repair program during National Library Week

Haywood County Library leaders presented National Library Week programming and described new services added over the past year. Kathy Vosler described a friends-of-the-library loyalty card that drives used-bookshop visits, a Fines Creek book locker (installed in December; 68 pickups to date and 281 books circulated), Creativebug online tutorials for crafters, and notary services available at Waynesville and Canton branches (by appointment). She noted a $1,400 book-repair machine that has restored more than 700 books and discussed Stay Sharp memory kits (33 purchased) and plans for brain-health programming in May.
Zachary Jones promoted National Library Week events including take-and-make kits, story times, a bookmark contest and a blood drive. Commissioners praised the library's growing digital and in-person use; one commissioner asked whether the library might offer book binding as a public service and Vosler said the repair process was inexpensive and could be explored as a service offering. "The library is so much more than books," Jones said, urging residents to use local branch services.
