Several residents spoke against the proposed Dollar General during both the agenda-item public comment period and general public comment, and the Board removed the rezoning public hearing from the agenda before the meeting’s public hearings.
Betty Myers told the Board she was expecting to speak against the proposed Dollar General and asked the Board to "stop wasting time and just vote 'No.'" Pam Hardy also stated opposition later in the public comments. Ron Tavernier reiterated opposition and criticized the Board’s transparency, saying the Board paid more attention to the Dollar General project than to Green Ridge. Chairman John Newman noted safety concerns at the intersection where the Dollar General has been proposed and stated that VDOT’s accident database for that area is incorrect.
Earlier in the meeting the Board amended the agenda to remove item 12a, the public hearing for REZ 25-01 Valco Investments LLC; the amendment passed (Supervisor Hamlet voted nay), and the amended agenda was then approved.
What’s next: The transcript does not record a formal vote on Rezoning REZ 25-01; the public hearing for that rezoning was removed from the April 14 agenda and no new hearing date is listed in the minutes.
