Board hears that Avonwood fire relocation costs were paid from general fund and liens recovered

Board member Kathy Randall asked about approximately $400,000 the town spent to assist residents after the Avonwood apartment fire. Tom DiStasio said the payments "were spent out of the general fund; some was spent in fiscal year 24 and some in fiscal year 25," and that the lien for the property was paid when the property changed hands.
DiStasio added that additional units that were privately owned produced lien recoveries "just over $100,000" in March. The board noted that the timing of expenditures spanned two fiscal years and that the repayments appear as other local revenues in the monthly report, contributing to an over-budget position for that revenue line.
