Service director says Pineway storm-sewer work will continue into summer; salt inventory and shop repairs noted

The city’s utility and road work priorities were discussed at the Feb. 24 council meeting as Service Director Joe Borczuch gave an update on salt supplies, truck repairs and an active storm sewer project.
Borczuch reported the city had received approximately 250 tons of salt just before the last snowstorm and has an additional order for about 250 tons pending delivery. He said one service truck has been in the repair shop for 65 days, underscoring why vehicle replacement is part of the budget. Regarding capital projects, Borczuch described the Pineway storm sewer project on Bagley Road running from Plum Creek up to Pineway and part of Mapleway South; he said the work is being monitored daily by city staff and a contractor-provided flagging operation is in place and that it will continue into the summer.
Council and staff described traffic disruption during construction and said officers will provide increased presence near the school during peak hours while the project passes Usher Road. Borczuch said sidewalks would only be replaced if damaged during the project and noted some cross-country utility lines and easement gaps have complicated the work. He added the project aims to reduce localized flooding.
