Traverse County adopts ordinance regulating tetrahydrocannabinol businesses, approves interim use permit

Traverse County’s Board of Commissioners adopted an Ordinance Regulating Tetrahydrocannabinol Businesses after a recommendation from the Planning Commission and approved a related Interim Use Permit to allow cannabis cultivation and manufacturing in an existing 3,200‑square‑foot building in the Agricultural Zoning District. Zoning Administrator Ben Oleson told the Board the Planning Commission recommended approval after making several changes; the Board approved the ordinance and a summary ordinance unanimously.
The Board also approved the Interim Use Permit, adopting the Planning Commission/Board of Adjustment findings of fact and the 17 recommended conditions. Commissioners framed the action as following the Planning Commission’s review and conditions rather than as an expansion of county policy; no dissenting votes were recorded.
