Commission Chair Jerrel Olson opened the Sept. 16 meeting as Highway Department Engineer Chad Gillespie updated the Board on multiple road and equipment matters. Gillespie said the Bridge Bonding Grant was secured to fund replacement of three box culverts on County State-Aid Highway 6 west of Dumont.
Gillespie told commissioners he submitted a Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) application for CSAH 2 to add gravel and apply the DUSTEX stabilizer to improve roadway durability. He also reviewed motor grader warranty details and reported the county recovered $24,368.40 in auction proceeds.
Gillespie requested permission to purchase a trial motor grader rake attachment costing $4,850.00 and suggested using auction proceeds to offset the cost. After discussion, the board decided to table the purchase request for consideration at a future meeting. Gillespie also reported a second meeting with State Homeland Security and Emergency Management that covered nine county sites and 13 township sites for coordination.
