Nicholas Bowles, the county's building inspection staff, told the board that proposed changes to the permit fee schedule and permit handling are intended to fund an additional permit technician and to align administration with the building inspection department. "All the proposed changes are expected to pay for the additional position," he said, and he recommended moving from a universal permit to separate trade permits to ensure licensure verification, citing Title 54.1, chapter 11, as the legal foundation for verifying trade licenses.
Board members asked for revenue projections before the public hearing; the board voted to advertise the fee schedule for a public hearing next month and asked staff to add a fee for work begun without a permit. Bowles said the new permitting software integration with the county GIS will allow improved scheduling and a read-only view for board members and the county administrator.
