Regional planners present draft future land use map, seek public feedback

Adams told attendees that Pennsylvania counties are required to have a comprehensive plan and that the Center Region bodies (CRPA/CRPC) act as a county-level planning entity for the six municipalities. She said staff coordinated the draft map with municipal planning staff so it reflects both regional goals and local priorities.
A staff member added that the draft is intentionally a visioning document: municipalities must still change local ordinances to implement the map’s recommendations. Staff said the draft will be revised as municipalities complete related zoning work — for example, College Township’s ongoing form-based code would prompt updates to the regional report.
Next steps, staff said, include continued review of permit and demographic data, targeted outreach to municipalities, and incorporation of local feedback into the next draft of the map. No formal vote or action was taken at the meeting.
