"The amount that was past due on January 7 was $7,790,871.58 for a collection rate of 84.69 percent," Sebastian said and added the current balance had been cut down to $3,866,567 with a 92.84% collection rate. He recommended setting the advertising date in the newspaper to April 16 and making April 10 at 5 p.m. the last day to pay to avoid inclusion in the notice. The chair and commissioners moved, seconded and approved the recommendation by unanimous voice vote.
The tax report was presented under North Carolina General Statute 105‑369(a) (as referenced in the meeting). Commissioners thanked the tax office staff for their work and noted that many residents pay online or by drop box, easing onsite lines during the busy period.
