Communications Director Don Gruver presented the 2024 annual Communications (9-1-1) report, telling commissioners that total CAD entries in 2024 were down about 5.3% from 2023 and that phone-call patterns continued to shift away from landlines toward VOIP and wireless. He reported that "99.6% of all 9-1-1 calls were answered within 10 seconds and 100% answered within 40 seconds," and that the county's 800 MHz radio system recorded 1,337,709 total PTTs in 2024.
The report showed variations among agencies in call volumes, noted that the dispatch console upgrade was deferred to 2025, and highlighted a multi-year trend of rising wireless call share. Gruver thanked communications staff whose combined experience exceeds 200 years and outlined emergency-preparedness outreach such as training and public information.
