The Board of Harvey County Commissioners voted to approve an assignment of the ground lease at the Newton City-County Airport from Midwest Electric Transformers to Bumblebee LLC. Assistant County Administrator/Finance Director Shannon Kingsley presented the assignment; the lease covers approximately 134,260 square feet and the paperwork indicates the current term runs through 2052. Commissioner Becky Reimer moved to approve the assignment, Commissioner Terry Scott seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The assignment paperwork attached to the agenda recites a lease history dating back to 1992 with several amendments and supplements, and includes an Exhibit B showing the additional leased premises. The agenda report noted that Bumblebee is an affiliate of Midwest and recommended approval "absent any extenuating circumstances." City commissioners had previously approved the assignment at a city meeting.
