Architect says east-wall veneer removed for safety; committee cites about $200,000 in additional costs

Architect Michael LoSasso told the School Building Committee that concerns about stabilizing the east wall led the project team to remove more of the exterior veneer to mitigate a potential safety hazard and improve weatherproofing for the Grade 2–4 and 5–8 classroom walls. LoSasso said local and state building officials were consulted as part of the construction change directive.
"decision was made to remove more of the veneer to eliminate the possibility of any safety hazard to the site itself," LoSasso said during the construction progress update. The committee was told exact costs will be discussed at the next monthly meeting; LoSasso cited an estimate of about $200,000 for the additional work. The committee did not vote on the CCD at this meeting but acknowledged the change and its pending budget impact.
