Rocky River officials presented a proposal to replace the refuse-side compactor at the municipal transfer station, 22401 Lake Road, citing the existing unit's end of useful life and worn pit hopper walls. The recommended vendor, Refuse Equipment & Truck Services, submitted a turnkey base proposal of $310,000; additional wear-plate improvements ($2,100) and an optional hydraulic "J" hook locking mechanism ($21,535) bring the contract total to a not-to-exceed $333,635.
Director Snyder (Service) told Council the project includes removal and disposal of the existing compactor, installation of a new hydraulic power unit and controls, steel wear plates in the hopper (3/16-inch liner plates), and required testing and commissioning. Equipment fabrication is estimated at approximately 22 weeks, and the specifications require completion by Feb. 28, 2027. The City plans to use the yard-waste side of the compactor for refuse processing during replacement to avoid downtime.
