Committee advances Real ID transparency amendment to clarify optional status for drivers

"It assures every driver that a licensed applicant is clearly informed of the choice between real ID and a non real ID," Chairman Hulsey said, adding that posting a prominent statement on the department's website would reinforce public awareness. Representative Renaud and other members described practical experiences where applicants were automatically issued a Real ID and said clearer front-counter procedures and website notices would reduce confusion.
Committee members agreed to place the amendment on the bill for discussion and to move the item forward; the transcript records the amendment adoption and a recorded vote sending the bill to the full Transportation Committee.
