Council OKs new compressor and used truck for fire department

The Fire Department recommended replacing a long-known failing compressor and an aging diesel vehicle. The council accepted a bid from Alex Air Apparatus for a compressor at $38,045 and approved purchasing a 2013 GMC 3500 HD from the DNR for $13,200. Fire Chief Laumeyer said the department will transfer equipment from the old engine into the newer truck to lower replacement costs.
The purchases were included in the department’s capital outlay planning; the city previously received a FEMA grant for SCBA units but the compressor was not funded by that grant writer. Council approved both purchases unanimously and directed staff to proceed with procurement and equipment transfers.
