Council approves change order and crosswalk cost-share for road projects

Long Prairie approved Change Order No.10 to repair an eroding drainage swale on the CSAH 56/38 project (city share $11,079.90 of $25,072.50) and authorized pay application No. 18; council also approved a $55,000 RRFB crosswalk cost share with LPGE School District for Highway 287 improvements.
City Engineer Kent Louwagie briefed the council on Change Order No.10 for the CSAH 56 and CSAH 38 road project to re-establish an eroding drainage swale and install a concrete block mat to prevent ongoing erosion. The Change Order increases the contract by $25,072.50 to address MPCA-identified issues; the county will pay 56% and the city 44% (city share $11,079.90). The council approved the Change Order and extended the contract completion date to July 1, 2025.
The council also approved Pay Application No. 18 to C&L Excavating for $13,368.40. Regarding Highway 287 (TH 71 to east of 9th Street), MnDOT plans to bid the mill/overlay project in March 2025; the city expects local costs around $80,000 and approved a 50-50 cost-split with the LPGE School District for $55,000 in RRFB crosswalk signs at two locations.
