Council approves conditional use permit to convert Lake Street building into 4 housing units

The Long Prairie City Council on Oct. 7 approved Resolution No. 24-10-7-28, authorizing Lopez Holdings FF LLC to convert a commercial building at 616 Lake Street South into a four-unit residential building. The resolution includes multiple conditions intended to limit neighborhood impacts, such as a minimum of 2.5 parking spaces per unit (minimum 10 spaces), screened waste storage and separate in-unit heating controls.
Council member Jim Kreemer moved to approve the conditional use permit and explicitly included the requirement to close the driveway onto 1st Street South. The motion carried unanimously. The resolution also requires the applicant to submit sewer and water line upgrade plans to the local building official and City Engineer to ensure adequate service for the additional units. Planning and Zoning and Sourcewell reviewed the application and recommended approval, according to the council materials.
