The Vernon County Finance Committee voted to advance design and bidding for a new emergency management facility with a price cap of $350,000. Supv John Pedretti moved the motion to proceed "with design and bidding, with a price of no more than $350,000, to include IT & fire alarms, a bathroom, and a utility room," and the motion carried on a voice vote with all in favor.
Committee discussion focused on cost and delivery. Phil Hewitt suggested the County could act as its own general contractor to save money, and Brandon Larson outlined space needs for a 5,000-square-foot heated, post-frame building with a single ridge line, 16-foot sidewalls and 14-foot doors. The motion specifies a 4/12 pitch roof and that 3-phase power is not to be installed. The committees agreed to proceed with design and bidding within the stated constraints.
