Traverse County appoints new chief deputy and approves sheriff’s office vehicle purchases

Sheriff Trevor Wright briefed the Board on department staffing and equipment needs, introduced deputies to the commissioners, and presented a $90,984 quote to replace two leased patrol vehicles whose leases expire at year-end. Wright said equipment to outfit each vehicle is expected to cost about $12,000–$15,000. He reported $54,000 in budget cuts he has already made and said he forecasts being roughly $150,000 under budget, with the largest pressure coming from wages and benefits. The Board approved moving forward with the two-vehicle purchase on a unanimous vote.
