Traverse County Commission approves agenda, adds Browns Valley property letter

The Traverse County Commission convened at 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2025. Commission Chair Jerrel Olson presided and Commissioners Chad Metz and Kayla Schmidt were present; the Board unanimously approved the meeting agenda after Schmidt moved and Metz seconded. "The agenda was unanimously approved with the following addition: Letter from the City of Browns Valley regarding tax forfeited property," the record states.
The Board also approved the Aug. 19, 2025 regular meeting minutes (motion by Metz, second by Schmidt). Later in the meeting, County Coordinator Lisa Zahl noted routine business items and asked whether commissioners wanted to be registered for the AMC annual conference in December.
When the City of Browns Valley's letter about a state‑owned tax‑forfeited property was raised, Kit Johnson asked for follow‑up. The commissioners directed staff to solicit bids to demolish the building to determine cost, and agreed that if demolition is not pursued they would advertise the property for sale. The Board took those steps by consensus rather than recorded roll‑call vote.
The meeting adjourned at 10:48 a.m.
