Water superintendent: engineers advancing pilot plant; NPDES and rate study steps remain

Water Superintendent Leghe Gerald updated Council that engineers have visited the town's water plant and preparations are underway for a pilot installation inside the existing softener room, pending power connection.
Staff is vetting a potential relocation site behind the public works facility (1400 West Fort Macon Rd) to clean up Circle Beach land and possibly free space for parking. Engineers inspected potential outfall locations on Hoop Pole Creek to confirm six feet of water at dead low tide and will seek State approval to install test equipment as part of NPDES permitting. GIS meter data has been submitted to engineers and staff said budgeting depends on NPDES permit timelines; the town is also working with Rural Water to conduct a rate study. Leghe Gerald said engineers "are moving forward with the pilot plant inside of the existing softener room" while the town secures approvals and power hookups.
