Members debated elevation limits to avoid handrails, in-ground storage solutions for utilities and whether a round stage (with a decorative compass suggested by Councilmember Joseph Starling) would best serve performers and daily boardwalk users. Council agreed Mayor Danny Navey, Councilmember Austin Waters and Town Manager John O'Daniel should meet promptly with the architect recommended by Fred Bunn to move the project forward.
Council and staff noted that professional audio technicians would still be required when events occur and that a covered structure would help acoustics and provide shade. The design team was asked to return with options that include CAMA compliance, ADA access solutions and construction cost estimates.
