Magna police emphasize education on pop-up vendors; social worker role faces grant expiration

Lt. Christopher Benedict presented the monthly Unified Police Department report and said UPD is aware of unlicensed pop-up vendors operating in areas such as Little Valley. He said UPD is "emphasizing education before enforcement" for those vendors as officers work to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Lt. Benedict introduced Sgt. Harry Holt as the new COP Neighborhood Preservation Sergeant and said Holt will focus on nuisance issues and partnerships. He also introduced Eddie Gold, a social worker funded by a grant assigned to the Magna precinct; Gold described his role providing mental-health assessment, outreach, and follow-up to reduce repeated law-enforcement involvement. Benedict told the Council the grant supporting the social worker "is set to expire in September" and said the City could assist with renewal efforts.
