District credits Esri mapping and Starlink connectivity for faster weed inspections

Fire Department staff said the district's first full year using an Esri‑based inspection workflow, coupled with Starlink connectivity in the field, materially sped up inspections and reduced billing and parcel‑matching errors.
Chief Berkey described the change: “With Esri. It's been phenomenal. And our crews were out there for the 1 day. Normally, it takes them close to a week to do all of this work.” Staff said the Esri map allowed the contractor to see only failed lots on a single map layer and that North Coast Tree Service is being onboarded to the district's system to perform abatement work.
Board members and staff said the improved efficiency helped reduce the number of parcels the district needed to abate this year relative to prior years.
