The board recognized student groups and staff achievements at the May 14 meeting.
Marilu Martinez, Director of Community Schools, recognized Tulare County Step Up Youth Challenge award winners: Santa Fe Elementary (Countywide Best Presentation Award), Porterville High School (Meeting the Need Award), and Strathmore High School (Phil Cox Best Overall Award). Dr. Francone, Director of Continuous Improvement, recognized Hannah Moore and Diego Corona for four awards from the California School Public Relations Association, including an Award of Merit for crisis communications and three Awards of Excellence for the new PUSD logo branding, the weekly employee newsletter, and the annual board report. Mr. Marroquin presented California Continuation Education Association awards, including Ms. Maria Fernandez named Region 3 Counselor of the Year and President Lillian Durbin receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award "honoring her over 40 years of service to students, schools, and the community."
The recognitions highlighted district instructional and communications successes and acknowledged staff and trustees who contributed to student programs and public engagement.
