The Tennessee House Insurance Committee on Feb. 17 attached amendment drafting code 13,455 to House Bill 1741 to clarify language used for the Department of Corrections' drug lists and advanced the bill out of committee.
Representative Davis, who explained the amendment, said the change corrects an imprecise reference in the bill and ensures the department's use of a formulary is reflected accurately. "The amendment, spoke to the Department of Corrections, and we wanted to make sure that we had accurate language within the bill because they have a formula and a formulary instead of, how in in quote insurance," he said. Davis added the amendment supports continued access to non-opioid pain-management alternatives for people in the prison system by allowing those alternatives to be placed on preferred lists.
The committee took the vote after discussion and the clerk recorded 12 ayes and 0 nays. With the amendment adopted, the bill moves forward to the next legislative step as recorded by the committee.
