Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told council a sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1 involved a damaged 24" clay tile and recommended replacing the tile, reconnecting pipes, installing a larger catch basin and replacing approximately 10 feet of pipe.
Consultants recommended lining pipes in sections; Bob Carpenter of Insight and Engineer Tim Wells provided suggestions. Two repair estimates were presented: Mansfield for $22,295 and McLallen Construction for $23,450. Council moved to accept Mansfield's proposal. The minutes record the motion: "MOTION TO HAVE MANSFIELD REPLACE APPROXIMATELY 10’ OF PIPE, INSTALL NEW LARGER CATCH BASIN, RECONNECT ALL PIPES, AND CLOSE THE SINKHOLE AT THE COST OF $22,295.00. Motion by Councilor Steadman and seconded by Councilor Osborn. Motion carried unanimously."
Next steps: The contract requires the borough to provide a truck during the project; the work will proceed with Mansfield under the approved estimate.
