County authorizes Holt Architects contract for Center of Government; occupancy projected for 2029

The Tompkins County Legislature authorized a contract with Holt Architects on Dec. 17 for work on the Center of Government project. Randy Brown said the selection followed a multi-step process in which several firms were evaluated and staff and legislators scored proposals; Holt was selected unanimously by the review group.
Brown described the contract as a "menu" contract with multiple steps; if, at any step such as evaluating State Historic Preservation Office requirements, the county decides not to proceed the county's obligation to pay stops at that point. During discussion Mike Lane noted the construction occupancy target was 2029.
The resolution passed following the committee report; one legislator recorded an opposing vote in the meeting tally. The downtown facilities committee will oversee next steps and phased implementation.
