Legislature to accept federal transit grants on behalf of TCAT; county to act as recipient

Legislator Deborah, speaking as chair of the TCAT board during legislator privilege of the floor, explained that several Federal Transit Administration grant resolutions on the consent agenda require the county to act as the formal recipient because TCAT itself is not an eligible FTA recipient. She said the set of grants includes four awards that will net TCAT about $12,000,000 in federal funding, plus roughly $900,000 to Gadabout (the paratransit provider) as subrecipients; the county's role is to receive and pass through the funds.
The legislature approved those items as part of a unanimous consent agenda. Deborah thanked county planning staff Frank D'aldo and others for their work in assembling the grant packages. "If you add up the numbers on these grants there are 4 grants that will net TCAT a total of $12,000,000 in funding that's the federal grant money plus the state grants that it leverages," she said.
Committee chairs noted that these grants require no local general-fund share beyond the subrecipient matches that TCAT will manage and that related capital projects will be reviewed further at committee level as needed.
