East Dorset traffic-calming gets positive state feedback; FEMA limitations slow flood grant options

Town staff reported a recent meeting with the State about East Dorset traffic-calming efforts produced generally positive feedback and that the State’s early paving plans for Route 7 could accommodate design changes if coordinated; the town is exploring a State grant to help design and construction costs. The minutes state the State "is early in their plans for any paving on Route 7 and likely could work with us to accommodate design into an upcoming project."
On flooding, staff noted FEMA is not accepting HMGP applications at the moment, which constrains options to pursue hazard-mitigation grant funding for East Dorset. The minutes also note that since recent trestle work the town "has not had many flooding events." A public hearing was set for April 8 to consider Route 30 speed-limit changes near HN Williams and an extension of a No Parking zone south of the Quarry.
