Borough plans smoke-and-dye test after sinkhole, pipe and catch-basin repairs in Municipal Lot #1

Union Citys Streets Supervisor, Bob Phillips, told council members that the Streets Department has been performing cleanup for Homecoming and patching potholes, and that he and Borough Manager Cindy Wells met with Solicitor Tim Wachter about sinkholes in Municipal Lot #1.
Phillips said it was recommended to perform a smoke-and-dye test after Mansfield fills the sinkhole, replaces approximately 10 feet of pipe and installs a new catch basin. The borough is awaiting quotes from JT Patching and Paving and Cross Paving to repave the area and catch-basin zone; the borough will notify business owners in the area and the Union City Volunteer Fire Department before scheduling smoke testing.
The council approved related grant-seeking (CDBG application) for a portion of the work; minutes record that the smoke testing will follow physical repairs by Mansfield.
