Tompkins County reports sales tax dip; DSS to receive $2 million Code Blue allocation

Deputy Director of Finance Drew Bremen told the legislature that September sales tax collections are down 5.6% compared with last year, translating to an approximate $300,000 shortfall for the month and an estimated $1 million shortfall for the 4th 0.25 if current receipts continue. Bremen said municipalities collectively will see about a 7.9% reduction, while the city saw around a 3% drop.
In related human services news, County Administrator Lisa Holmes reported that DSS has received a New York State Code Blue allocation and "we will be receiving the 2,000,000 we were expecting for code blue." Holmes said she would follow up with DSS on the citizens advisory committee suggestion raised during public comment.
Legislators asked for more detailed quarterly breakdowns by industry and for the finance office to circulate the underlying spreadsheets once verified.
