The Tompkins County Legislature voted unanimously on resolution A to support amending the Tompkins County Public Library Board of Trustees bylaws to increase the number of board members. Government Operations Chair Amanda Champion said the committee received 25 applications after a public call for candidates and recommended supporting an increase so the board can accommodate a larger pool of qualified applicants.
Champion said the change would allow the board to expand to 13, 14 or 15 members depending on the board’s subsequent decision and speed onboarding of new trustees. The legislature recorded a unanimous vote to support the amendment.
The resolution was read and voted on as part of the Government Operations Committee report; the chair clarified that one legislator attending remotely was eligible to vote under the remote attendance policy. No amendments were proposed on the floor.
