Recreation Commission chair defends commission work and funding at township meeting

At the Sept. 18 meeting Ms. Shaw, identified as chair of the mayor-appointed Recreation Commission, described the group’s responsibilities and pushed back against the idea they are underfunded. She said the commission is a nine-member volunteer body consisting of Democrats, Republicans and Independents that focuses on teamwork and action. "They are not underfunded. The annual budget the Recreation Commission submits to the township committee has always been fully supported and never questioned," she said.

Ms. Shaw expressed that volunteers sometimes feel their efforts go unnoticed and that criticism from others can make the work feel thankless. She said the commission strives daily to improve Carneys Point and that events such as the rescheduled Foam Party will be planned for warmer months, possibly late April or early May.
