Carneys Point introduces DEP-mandated flood hazard ordinance

Carneys Point Township introduced Ordinance 1062 on Sept. 4 to update local flood hazard maps, designate a floodplain administrator and comply with a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection mandate.
Engineer J. Biegen told the committee that the ordinance is required by NJ DEP, must be submitted to the Planning Board for review before final adoption, and that the township's floodplain elevation will be set "one over the FEMA number." The ordinance designates the Construction Code Official as the floodplain administrator.
The motion to introduce the ordinance passed unanimously and will return for a subsequent public hearing and final vote after Planning Board review.
