Commission approves island annexation into Garland City at 12800 North 7000 West

Scott Lyons of Community Development explained that state code requires county approval for "island annexations" (parcels not directly adjacent to a city boundary). He told the commission the parcel at 12800 North 7000 West is separated from the city boundary by a few properties and that Garland City approved the annexation at its May 20 council meeting; county approval was therefore required to complete the annexation process.
Commissioner Bingham moved to approve the proposed island annexation into Garland City and Commissioner Perry seconded. The commission approved the motion by voice vote. Staff noted the property is already served by Garland City's water and the city's letter to the county addressed zoning, emergency access, services, and right-of-way concerns.
